Review of Smoke House Deli

Derived from the company who owns Salt Water Cafe’ and Mocha, Smoke House Deli has obtained it’s chain of ‘hand-made’ restaurants across Mumbai. I have mostly visited the one at Pali Hill, Bandra West. This European themed restaurant is a bright lit place filled with hand drawn walls, laced floral table covers and pastel lamps with old American furniture. The ambience with it’s sketched  interiors adds an appealing warmth and charm to it.

We settled and placed the order for a Caesar Salad with smoked chicken (330 + 80), which took a few minutes to come. It tasted just right with generously grated parmesan and adequate dressing needed for the greens.

Then came the Spiced Chicken Panko strips that was served with garnished mustard on kale and onion (430).  The chicken was soft with a tangy sour flavour of the tobasco sauce and the spice of cayenne pepper. The mustard garnishing gave a slight hit to the palate that went well with the dish.

For the non spicy food eaters you could have this with the complimentery fresh, airy breads and breadsticks, served with honey and cheese dips.

Our next order was a Crispy Peri Peri Chicken (440) accompanied with a thick, creamy Oreo Milkshake (160). The milkshake did not disappoint at all and was chilled and loaded. The Peri Peri Chicken went down well with it’s paprika seasoning and dip. It was crunchy on the outside and soft within.

Everything on the table so far was pleasing. What disappointed us was their recommended Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli (470) with olive tapenade. The sauce was watery and lacked the desired taste.

The Wild Mushroom Risotto (470) followed this and just as recommended was savoured by us. It was toppled with fried bread cubes and had the perfect essence of mushroom and it’s cream.

However, something was wrong with the taste of the smoked chicken in it. On pointing that out, they were hospitable enough to replace the dish with a new one. The Lemon Iced teas (170) complimented this dish very well.

Our last order in the mains was the Smoked Chicken and Oregano Burger (370). It came along with French fries. The burger bun was too yeast-y, but we had no complaints with the juicy, herbed minced chicken patty. The patty along with melted cheese blended well.

Finally to please our sweet tooth we finished our lunch with the Flourless Chocolate Fudge and Vanilla ice-cream (270). Smoke House Deli is one such restaurant that leaves a room to follow the current trends. With it’s wonderful budget friendly offers, delicious additions to menu and friendly service, it convinces you to pay a visit back soon.

Overall we had a good semi-premium lunch, paying 1000/- per head,  which I believe each of us should experience in Smoke House.
