Fat Man's Cafe
Recently
I had been craving for some yummy hearty food in my tummy. After all the buzz about this cosy place in Bandra Reclamation, I finally
visited the Fat Man’s Cafe. It is an accentuation of a small space, with
its whitewashed walls punctuated with occasional bursts of bright colour, and
just the right dose of quirky graffiti to hold your attention.
It cannot be easily
spotted but once you’re in, you wouldn’t want to leave. I went to this place on
a weekday, afternoon and was lucky enough to find a good corner. The interiors
are thoughtfully done with single pendant chandeliers, wooden tables, chairs
with stripes and psychedelic prints. The chairs range from vintage to benches. The dominating lime green and sky blue colours
manage to keep the essence of the logo alive.
We began with calling for the healthy dish of Sautéed
Vegetables (145) and Garlic Bread (125) in the sides. Every vegetable
comprising the dish was well stirred with herbs and it was the perfect garlic
and spring onion sauté. Garlic and herbs again dominated the taste of the
Garlic bread that was over within seconds. I personally am a lover of the
garlic and herbs mixture.
It was time to increase our appetite with some loaded food
coming. As we called for the Jacket Potatoes stuffed with Chipotle Corn Cheese
(240). This was well garnished with chives. The corn cheese blended well in
chipotle. The taste however, was not as
promising. We then chose a Portobello
Mushroom Slider with French fries (330).
The crunchy buns had mushrooms bursting with generous feta spinach mash
inside. The pesto added the right amount of juiciness and flavour to it. This
dish was a relish.
To end the meal with a Main Course we customized the
home-made Fettuccine Pasta in red and cream sauce. I went into another
marvelling with perfect creaminess and spice with every bite (395). We spent quite some time there with our
conversations and wait for the dishes. The service was really slow. The Jacket
potatoes took 20 minutes to come. Our order for the ice tea too was not
punched, making us cancel the order.
Overall I personally had a good time and would definitely
pay another visit to this place.
Things to look forward to: Refreshing ambience with single
pendant chandeliers, the Team in the Kitchen that had mastered the art of
finessing the dishes.
