The Pantry Review

I decided to catch up with my close friends on a Saturday brunch in the quaint French patisserie, The Pantry, that is situated in the entangled lanes of Kala Ghoda, right next to Masaba’s signature store. As I stepped in, I was welcomed by a small place (10 table seating) with a refreshing ambience.

Placed carefully at a corner; with a white cream front and subtle European architecture, the interiors contain high ceilings, white tiled walls and generous glass windows, that  invite inside a good amount of sunlight.

In this small cozy place, you could spend a lazy afternoon or read a book while sipping in  some strong coffee or just casually meet a few friends. On a busy day you could just walk out carrying a healthy take-away of the delicious Mumbai Masala Quiche right from the oven or a crunchy Pesto Cottage Cheese Broccoli Puff kept in front of the self-service counter .We got a table for 3 and seated ourselves at a corner, right next to the wooden pads that contained the Menu.

Glancing through the options, though few,  we called for the fresh orange juice(175) for vitamin boost and the Pantry’s signature cold coffee(175). The juice was fine, nothing too good. The coffee just like the Menu said was a perfect blend, neither very sweet nor very creamy. After the drinks we called for a Spaghetti in Pesto sauce, but they did not have pastas that day so we had to settle for the summer vegetable Cannelloni baked with Pondicherry cheese(365) and Garlic Bread with cheese in the Mains. The cannelloni was soft with a considerable amount of filling. There were 3 pieces of it, well prepared in tangy tomato sauce.

However, I was a little disappointed on cutting through it as the filling was not nicely combined and the veggies spread all over the plate. Overall the dish tasted good, the filling could be worked upon. The garlic bread on the other hand was satisfying. It contained 4 loafs of Italian bread loaded with garlic and cheese and well toasted.

Followed by this we called for another dish in the Mains, grilled Cottage Cheese and Assorted vegetables with Red Pepper cream sauce(365) This was certainly my dish of the day with cottage cheese and vegetables grilled perfectly. The sauce was well cooked with a right essence of herbs and pepper. Also there was a small portion of brown rice, the taste of which complimented the sauce.

All the dishes came in generous portions and were presented with good service. We were way too full by the end of our meal to ask for any dessert. The food price is a little high but it promises to be filling.Considering I went with a vegetarian friend I could not experiment with non-vegetarian dishes but I’m planning to pay a visit again as some of the meat dishes looked appetizing.

Things to look forward to: Cucumber flavoured water, Signature cold coffee, Garlic Bread with cheese and grilled Cottage Cheese and Assorted vegetables in Red Pepper cream sauce.

I hope this helps you for your visit to The Pantry. Until then Stay foodie!
